What are lampwork glass beads? Lampwork glass beads are made one at a time by a glass artist. The artist uses an oxygen/propane mix torch to melt rods of colored glass around a steel rod. When the desired colors and effects are achieved, often a clear coating of glass is applied. The beads are placed in a kiln and cooled down VERY slowly, usually overnight. This prevents the beads from cracking and helps strengthen them. A single bead can take a few minutes or several hours to create. Each one is a beautiful, unique work of art.
